Some colored chicks

Yep, you read that right.

Real live chicks, dyed

I took this picture in Binondo during the Chinese New Year.ย I couldn’t get a better picture, though.

For the uninformed: this is quite a common sight in marketplaces and town plazas here in my country. Children buy them (or get their parents to), and these colorful little chicks presumably grow to become full-fledged chickens. Presumably.

I really don’t know what’s with our predilection for putting trappings on everything without any thought on artistry or simple compassion.

  1. Wait, what? Those are real little baby chicks and they dyed them? I’m not holding out high hopes that they used organic food colouring rather than chemical-laden synthetic dye. Those poor little chicks!
